SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna — Upgrade Energy Philippines, Inc. (UGEP) teamed up with the Haribon Foundation, the country’s pioneer environmental conservation organization, to take part in hands-on reforestation efforts alongside local farmers.
Volunteers from UGEP joined the San Cristobal Farmers Association in San Pablo, Laguna for the Community Buhay-Punlaan Native Tree Nursery Activity, where they experienced the first stage of forest restoration. The team prepared and bagged 1,360 pieces of mixed soil and potted 1,385 native tree seedlings for future planting at critical forest areas in the province.
Planted species were Narra, Hawili, Tibig, Tampoy, Igio, Binunga, Bangan, and Alim, among others.
The initiative also targets restoring natural groundwater reserves in the community to secure domestic water supplies for their local farms.
For UGEP, engaging employees directly in grassroots conservation is an essential extension of its mission as a renewable energy provider.
While clean energy builds a low-carbon future, active participation in nature-based initiatives grounds the team in the broader reality of environmental stewardship. It also helps instill that genuine sustainability requires both technological innovation and healthy ecosystems.

“We are so grateful for the chance to visit the farm and take part in this work,” said Jocelyn Anivado, Chief Finance Officer of UGEP. “Seeing our team step outside our normal workplace, support one another, and work side by side to make a difference was truly heartwarming.”
Local farmers thanked UGEP for taking the time to participate in initiatives that help conserve the environment.
“Initiatives like this are not just for our benefit today, but for future generations who deserve to inherit a healthy environment,” said Albeniz Calapine, Vice President of the San Cristobal Farmers Association.
Through this partnership, UGEP and the Haribon Foundation continue to champion grassroots sustainability while recognizing that long-term initiatives on environmental conservation begin with empowering local communities.
